AUT Hotel Spotlight: Breathtaking Beachfront: Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

Kauai is a great destination if you are planning a trip to Hawaii. We love Kauai because it is less crowded than Oahu and Maui, has breathtaking land and seascapes and it just moves at a much slower pace than the rest of the state. It is the perfect place to recharge your batteries.

In years past, we have stayed in the North Shore but for this trip we wanted something different. We chose the South Shore because it is closer to the airport (30 minute drive) and it is located on the drier/sunnier side of the island. ALSO, we had heard nothing but FANTASTIC things about the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and we wanted to try it out.

This place is a 10/10 and is more than deserving of having its own post. This upscale, oceanfront hotel has lush gardens, incredible pools, outstanding service and elegant rooms complete with marble bathrooms and private lanais. Is it pricey? Yes! But if you can swing it..even if for just a few days of your trip, we think it is worth it.

What We Loved:

That Breakfast Buffet Though.
OMG. We are so happy that we decided to include this in our hotel stay. I never really understood the expression, “to die for” until I tasted the macadamia nut sticky buns. Words will never do it justice. The fruits, breads, cheeses, juices…they were enough to get me out of bed in the morning on vacation…and that is saying something!  Also! Added bonus: there were 2 swans that ate with us every morning. Literally felt like we were in a movie.

Salt Water Lagoon
For beach lovers, the 1.5 acre saltwater lagoon will be your favorite spot. The actual ocean in front of the resort is pretty choppy and not recommended for swimming so the Grand Hyatt troubleshooted and created this man-made saltwater lagoon. It has different depths and you can even kayak/snorkel in it! You still get the views without worrying about those crazy rip currents!  We reserved a cabana here for added privacy and we were so comfortable that we actually took a nap!

The Pools
The hotel boasts three large pools! Kids (okay, and adults!) will love the lazy river and 150 foot water slide. There is a large pool that hosts activities and has basketball and volleyball nets. If your main goal is relaxation, there is an “adults only” pool next to Captain’s Bar on the upper level of the pool area. All pools are open 24 hours!

The Gardens and Hotel Grounds
Just simply stunning. Our pictures will never do it justice but the grounds are impeccably cared for and immaculately groomed. The hotel is massive, with over 600 hotel rooms so there are plenty of areas to stop and take photos. We also enjoyed the beach walk along the water. We even saw the famous cliff where Anne Heche and Harrison Ford jump from in the movie, Six Days Seven Nights.

Restaurants…there are 10 of them! Here are our favorites:
Tidepools Restaurant
Be sure to book reservations early as you will want to eat here! This place has the trifecta. Fresh seafood/steak, ambiance and stellar waitstaff.
Fine Italian Dining! Be sure to sit outside to enjoy views of the garden.
Stevenson’s Library
Serving sushi and craft cocktails, we loved this place!

Anara Spa
The Anara Spa is the largest spa on the island coming in at a whopping 45,000 square feet. I was able to get a massage in a hut in a gorgeous outdoor treatment room. There are lava-rock outdoor showers, a lap pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpools. Honestly, you feel like you are miles away from everything. Connected to the spa is where you will find the fitness center that truly is state of the art.

I love visiting Hawaii and this looks like a perfect place to stay on my next trip. I can see myself by one of the pools kicking back in the warmth! Thanks for the inspiration.

Your pictures are stunning! My parents just stayed at this resort a few months ago. They loved it so much that they’ve already booked to go again next year. I’m hoping our schedules align, and I can go with them!
